Little bits with big health benefits

In the twitterverse, I’ve seen lots of fellow runners talk about Energy Bits.  They sounded intriguing so when the company generously offered to send me a sample, I was pretty excited.  I’ve made a huge effort in the past few years to cut down or eliminate my consumption of anything artificial or generally bad for me.  I’m an obsessive ingredient-reader for everything I buy.

When I heard about Energy Bits, I was thinking hmm, what kind of crazy ingredients are in these things to give you energy? Then I read about them.  They are 100% organic Spirulina, nothing else.  No extra junk that you don’t need.  If you’re wondering what Spirulina is, it’s a type of algae with a whole lot of health benefits.  Here’s what the company has to say about these powerful little bits:

They have the highest concentration of protein in the world (64% protein which is three times the amount of protein in steak), over 40 nutrients, and are just one calorie per tab.  Just a handful of 30+ bits will not only fill you up, they will meet most of your daily nutritional requirements, and all for just ONE calorie per tab. Even better, spirulina is a nitrogen based algae, and since nitric oxide opens up your blood vessels, taking our ENERGYbits® will give your brain and your body a steady and natural supply of oxygen and nourishment. That’s one of the reasons why they are such a great wake up and pick up.

Plus, they are heart healthy!

Our algae tabs are quickly becoming recognized as the easiest, fastest, safest and most natural way to lower blood pressure and heart disease and are even being recommended to patients by cardiologists. This is because ENERGYbits® and SKINNYbits® are 100% organically grown spirulina algae which is loaded with heart healthy Essential Fatty Acids like Omega 3 and GLA which reduce inflammation in blood vessels. This helps blood to flow easily and heals the blood vessels so blood pressure and the chance of heart attack or stroke are reduced.

Energy Bits give you energy completely naturally, plus so many extra health benefits.  I tried them before a run over the weekend.  You can chew them or swallow them, but I’d recommend swallowing.  I’m not going to lie, they sort of smell funky, but you don’t even taste them if you take them with some water.  Plus, I’m the one who slurps down chia gel before long runs so taking these little Energy Bits is a whole lot more pleasant in my opinion.  I’m pretty sure the bits will be replacing my chia gel ritual.

Down the hatch!

I felt great on my run after taking the bits.  I really did feel a difference in my energy level which is a big deal for me since I’m lacking in the sleep department lately.  I’ll definitely be taking them again because as a mom of a 3 year old (who still doesn’t sleep well) and an almost 8 week old, I need all the extra energy I can get! I’m also just getting back into running so I feel sluggish on most of my runs because I’m out of shape and I’m not getting much sleep.  It really made a difference to have that boost of energy when I needed it.
